The Legal Self-Help Center of Southwest Detroit is located at the Family Alliance for Change office, 5716 Michigan Ave, Suite 4100 in Detroit. The Self-Help Center is open Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00am - 3:00pm. Visitors can access computers and printers during these hours. Help is available in both English and Spanish. All services are free.
The Self-Help Center is staffed by navigators who can help visitors use the Michigan Legal Help website to find information about how to handle simple civil legal matters, such as housing, family matters or other civil rights. MichiganLegalHelp.org does not cover all areas of the law.
Navigators can help visitors use the website to find what they need, answer questions about court practices and processes, and answer simple questions about forms that are available on the website. Navigators cannot give any legal advice.
The website also provides information about referrals to legal aid organizations, pro bono lawyers and other community services for people who need assistance with other issues. Questions regarding immigration, asylum or discrimination related to national origin or documentation status can be directed to Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, a non-profit organization that provides free legal assistance to people across Michigan.
